Marlins Vs. Rockies: Giambi Walkoff HR Gives Colorado 7-4 Victory Over Florida

It has been a depressing season for Colorado Rockies fans, as the trademark Coors Field Magic hasn’t been apparent.

Jason Giambi provided a glimpse of that magic, with the first walkoff home run of the season for Colorado, a three run shot that flew into the right field stands and completed a four run, ninth inning comeback victory for the Rockies over the Florida Marlins.

Kevin Millwood provided another solid, if unspectacular, start for Colorado. He went six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits, with all four runs scoring on two run home runs by Mike Stanton and John Buck. Millwood has now allowed seven runs on five home runs in his two starts with Colorado.

Troy Tulowitzki stayed hot, hitting his 24th home run of the season in the third inning. Dexter Fowler continued his torrid pace in the second half of the season, hitting a triple and starting the game winning rally with an odd double in the bottom of the ninth inning.

With two outs, Fowler hit a bloop that landed in shallow center field. Fowler made a break for second base before hesitating and getting caught in a rundown. Marlins first baseman Gaby Sanchez slipped and Fowler made it into second without any difficulty. Carlos Gonzalez plated Fowler with a line drive double of his own down the right field line, and Troy Tulowitzki was intentionally walked.

Giambi provided the final fireworks, completing the rally and giving Colorado a dramatic victory to start their homestand.

The series continues as Jhoulys Chacin takes the mound against Anibal Sanchez. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 pm MDT.
