Matt Roth, Jacksonville Jaguars Reach Contract Agreement, According To Report

While the Denver Broncos were interested in defensive end.linebacker Matt Roth, formerly of the Cleveland Broncos, he wound up in the AFC South. The Jacksonville Jaguars swooped in and nabbed the defensive end on Thursday morning, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter. He agreed to a one-year, $3 million contract.

The Broncos reshaped their defensive line in free agency by bringing in defensive tackles Ty Warren and Brodrick Bunkley and re-signing Marcus Thomas. At defensive end, Elvis Dumervil and Robert Ayers took over those spots. Ayers likely would have been relegated to a reserve role had Roth signed with the team. Backups Jeremy Jarmon and Derrick Harvey were acquired through a trade and free agency.

The interest the Broncos had, then, was not as great as other teams. Given the rotational nature of the defensive line in the new 4-3 defense for the Broncos, Roth was not a priority.
