Seattle University To Join WAC In 2012

The Western Athletic Conference isn't done with expansion. On Tuesday afternoon, the league announced that the Seattle University Redhawks will be the latest addition. This comes seven months after it took in the University of Denver, the University of Texas-San Antonio and Texas State University.

Denver and Seattle are the only two schools in the nine-team conference that do not have a football program. Texas-San Antonio and Texas State are making the jump from Football Championship Subdivision to Football Bowl Subdivision.

Back in November, we wondered whether Denver should have reconsidered joining the WAC. With Boise State, Fresno State, Hawaii and Nevada leaving or in the process leaving and with Montana and North Texas rejecting invitations to join, the conference's long-term viability is still in question, but let's see what happens before declaring anything dead on arrival.

The move to the WAC for all the teams takes place on July 1, 2012.
