2011 NCAA Lacrosse All-Americans Announced; Virginia's Steele Stanwick Leads The Way

The 2011 NCAA Lacrosse All-America teams were announced earlier this week, and the Denver Pioneers placed four players across the teams. Junior attacker Mark Matthews led the way as a Second-Team All-American. Through last week's action, Matthews has 45 goals and 24 assists (69 points) in 17 game. His selection is the highest for a DU player in school history.

Three Pioneers made the Honorable Mention team. Sophomore Chase Carraro scored 19 goals and won 59 percent of his faceoffs taken. Sophomore Cameron Flint tallied 37 points (27 goals, 10 assists), good for fourth on the team. Freshman goalkeeper Jamie Faus was the final Honorable Mention selection. He went 14-2 with an 8.22 goals against average. He saved 57 percent of his shots.

The Pioneers' opponent, the Virginia Cavaliers, placed five across the teams. Junior attacker Steele Stanwick made First-Team All-America, putting up 29 goals and 35 assists. Junior midfielder Colin Briggs was a second-team selection with 24 goals and 12 assists. Sophomore midfielder Chris LaPierre made the third team. Attacker Chris Bocklet and goalie Adam Ghitelman were honorable mention selections.

The Pioneers and the Cavaliers play for a spot in the championship game on May 28.
