Rockies' Carlos Gonzalez Leaves Game With Groin Tightness

The Colorado Rockies and their fans are holding their collective breath on Thursday night. Star outfielder Carlos Gonzalez left the game against the Philadelphia Phillies in the bottom of the third inning in what is being diagnosed as tightness in his left groin. No word on the severity of the injury yet.

Gonzalez hurt his groin while running down a ball on wet outfield grass. Ryan Spilborghs entered for him and will be his replacement should Gonzalez miss any time. It would be a good bet that Gonzalez will be considered day-to-day and sit out at least the first game of their upcoming series with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Gonzalez, who finished third in National League MVP voting in 2010 and competed late for the Triple Crown, has not played that way so far in 2011. He entered the game hitting .242/.322/.396 with five home runs and 25 RBI. But he showed signs of turning things around earlier in the week when he hit a three-run home run off of Tim Lincecum and picked up a two-run single off Jonathan Sanchez in the next game.
