In the early games for the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the scores seemingly got mixed up. In the first contest of the day, the No. 4 Texas Longhorns squeaked out an 85-81 victory over No. 13 Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies' Reggie Hamilton put up 25 points and Keith Benson and Will Hudson combined for 21 rebounds, but that wasn't enough to overcome the Longhorns. Tristan Thompson and Jordan Hamilton led the way with 17 points and 19 points, respectively, and 10 rebounds each. Texas will play the winner of No. 5 Arizona-No. 12 Memphis.
The other early game involved No. 8 Michigan and No. 9 Tennessee in a lopsided game. The Wolverines sent Tennessee to a 30-point defeat, 75-45. Michigan took complete control in the second half of the game, outscoring the Volunteers, 42-16. Tobias Harris was the only Tennessee player to score in double digits (19), while the second-leading scorer had only six points. The Wolverines had five players score in double digits, including Zack Novak, who scored 14 and pulled down 10 rebounds. The Wolverines will play the winner of No. 1 Duke-No. 16 Hampton.
Now Tennessee fans must wait to see if Bruce Pearl will still be the team's coach.
