Cat-Griz 2011 Final Score: Montana Grizzlies Knock Off Montana State Bobcats, 36-10, In Brawl Of The Wild

The No. 1 Montana St. Bobcats (9-2, 7-1 Big Sky) won't be No. 1 once the latest FCS polls come out and they will also likely lose out on being the top seed in the FCS playoffs. They fell to the Montana Grizzlies (9-2, 7-1 Big Sky), 36-10, in the 111th Brawl of the Wild.

After a defensive struggle in the first half gave the Grizzlies a 12-0 halftime lead, the Bobcats opened the second half with a 30-yard DeNarius McGhee run and then a seven-yard touchdown pass to put seven points on the board (after the extra point was successful). But the Grizzlies answered right back with a 79-yard touchdown pass b Jordan Johnson.

The Grizzlies scored 10 more points on a 33-yard field goal and a Dan Moore 37-yard touchdown run toward the end of the third quarter. The Bobcats added three points with 14:16 left in the final quarter when Jason Cunningham, who missed an earlier attempt, made a 37-yard field goal.

But with 9:28 still left on the clock, Peter Nguyen rushed for 21 yards up the middle and put the Grizzlies in a 36-10 lead.

The Bobcats and the Grizzlies will be co-champions of the Big Sky Conference and now await Sunday morning's FCS playoff bracket.

Montana Vs. Montana State Score: Grizzlies Take Commanding 29-7 Lead Into 4th Quarter

The No. 1 Montana State Bobcats are going to need to pull off a fourth-quarter comeback if they want to secure the No. 1 overall seed in the FCS playoffs. They are down, 29-7, to the Montana Grizzlies at the start of the final frame.

After the Bobcats and the Grizzlies exchanged touchdowns on the first two drives of the third quarter, State was unable to find the end zone again. The Grizzlies, though, were able to secure a 33-yard field goal and a Dan Moore 37-yard rushing touchdown later in the quarter to open up a 22-point lead.

The Bobcats are in danger of losing their No. 1 ranking and a potential shot at being the No. 1 overall seed in the 2011 FCS playoffs, the bracket of which is revealed on Sunday morning.

Montana Vs. Montana State Score: Bobcats, Grizzlies Exchange TDs To Start 2nd Half

The Montana St. Bobcats wasted no time in the second half of the Brawl of the Wild to put points on the board. Receiving the ball to start the second half, John Ellis brought the ball to the 50-yard line and 15 more yards added to that after the Montana Grizzlies committed a personal foul.

DeNarius McGhee then ran for a 30-yard gain. He followed that up with a seven-yard touchdown pass to Elvis Akpla. That drive took just 53 seconds. However, the Grizzlies immediately answered with a 79-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Johnson to Jabin Sambrano to take a 19-7 lead with less than two minutes off the clock in the third quarter.

Will this game a be a tale of two quarters: a defensive struggle in the first followed by a shootout in the second? Well, it's too soon to say that.

Cat-Griz Game 2011 Halftime Score: Montana Leads Montana State, 12-0, At Halftime

The Montana State Bobcats are going to need a second half comeback if they hope to defeat the Montana Grizzlies in this year's Cat-Griz game. The Grizzlies kicked a field goal to take the 3-0 lead with roughly nine minutes left in the first half and then forced a safety to take a 5-0 lead. With 2:15 left in the quarter, the Grizzlies completed a scoring drive with a fourth-and-goal touchdown pass by Jordan Johnson to Kavario Middleton.

Before the late Grizzlies touchdown, this had largely been a defensive struggle that saw neither team able to advance the ball into the end zone. The Bobcats kicker, Jason Cunningham, missed a first quarter field goal attempt. And then at the end of the first half, the Bobcats had a promising drive, picking up first downs on back-to-back plays. A DeNarius McGhee pass to Everett Gilbert did bring the team to the Grizzlies' 36-yard line, but the drive failed to result in a touchdown.
