Laurence Maroney Added To Roster, RB Andre Brown Released

With yesterday’s trade with the New England Patriots for running back Laurence Maroney, it was obvious that space would have to be made on the current roster. It was just uncertain who would be that casualty.

Today, it appears that RB Andre Brown has been released. Brown had been claimed off waivers from the New York Giants at the beginning of the month.

Denver Broncos Trade For New England Patriots' RB Laurence Maroney

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweets that the Broncos acquired New England Patriots' running back Laurence Maroney today:

For RB Laurence Maroney, New England gets Denver's fourth-round pick in 2011 and Denver gets New England's sixth-round pick in 2011.less than a minute ago via web

As Sayre Bedinger writes over at Mile High Report:

I really like this move for the Broncos. They are weak at RB after Knowshon Moreno. Correll Buckhalter is a veteran, but has clearly lost a step and is nowhere near as effective as he was last year. He's also very injury prone. Lance Ball and Andre Brown are both young players with little or no NFL action at all.

The Broncos probably got Maroney at a bargain basement price. He is an effective back at times, but the Patriots obviously had no plans for him this year. It was a good move by them to get something for him while they still could.

Maroney was buried on the depth chart in New England and was one of the team's inactives last Sunday.
