Promising outfielder Dexter Fowler was pulled from his planned start for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox late Monday evening shortly before their game against Portland. He was told that his stint in the minors had come to an end.
Fowler, who had been sent down to receive regular playing time, responded to the challenge, hitting .340 with 13 RBI in 27 games. He had hit for the cycle last week and showed enough improvement to warrant the call up. A recent injury to Brad Hawpe is also a very like factor in the call up.
There is currently no word as to who is being demoted to clear a roster space, though the likely scenario includes reserve infielder Chris Nelson returning to Colorado Springs. Nelson had made his major league debut last week against the Milwaukee Brewers, but had been limited to pinch hitting duties due to Jonathan Herrera's productive play at second base.
