Quest For The West; Broncos Begin Divisonal Play Against Hated Raiders

The Broncos will finally get into AFC West play this Sunday when they face the Oakland Raiders at Invesco Field @Mile High.  It is the 100th time the two teams will meet, with Denver trailing in the all-time series 41-56-2.  Week 7 equals a team mark set in 1985 for the latest the Broncos have played their first AFC West game.

The Broncos come into the game at 2-4, losers of two straight, but just 1.5 games behind division-leading Kansas City.  With all six games against AFC West opponents still on the schedule, the Broncos are still in good shape to win the division, something they haven't done since 2005.

It all starts this weekend against Oakland, a team that is once again in a bit of disarray after high hopes this summer.  While JaMarcus Russell is no longer in the fold, his replacement Jason Campbell hasn't gotten the job done either and lost his starting spot to Bruce Gradkowski.  With Gradkowski injured, the Raiders may turn back to Campbell or go with veteran journeyman Kyle Boller.

For the Broncos, they will look to continue their recent dominance against the Silver and Black.  Denver is 22-8 against Oakland since 1995, 11-4 in Denver.  The Raiders have won their last two trips to Invesco Field, however, something that has contributed greatly to the Broncos 4-year playoff drought.  The Broncos haven't beaten Oakland in Denver since September 16, 2007, a 23-20 OT win.

Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts will call the game for CBS.
